Penzance Wheelers Club Runs take place every Sunday at 9:00 am, starting from the car park by Jordan's Cafe (click for map) between Marazion and Long Rock (about 200m up the road from our old meeting place at Long Rock Memorial Institute).
Normally there are 4 groups. The 1st group is for fitter, experienced cyclists, the 2nd group for experienced cyclists wanting to ride at a steadier pace, the 3rd group steadier still and the 4th group for those who prefer a more leisurely pace or are finding their feet in cycling, discovering how to ride in a group and the craft of the sport.
The runs are usually around 40 - 65 miles, and a café stop is always included. With each group, the route and café destination are announced before the ride begins. No-one is dropped, and we wait for riders in the event of a puncture or mechanical trouble.
There are also mid-week rides for those lucky enough not to be working. These meet at 9:30am on Tuesdays (not always attended) and Thursdays (usually well attended) also at Jordans Cafe (as above), these rides normally aim to do 35-45 miles.
In addition, on Thursdays there is often an earlier group ride that leaves at 09:00 which aims to do 60-80 miles, folk may choose which one they wish to take.
Everyone is welcome to take part in these group rides, whether members or non-members.
New riders are always welcome on a Wheelers Club Run, as are people from other clubs and cyclists down in the area on holiday. If you are new to cycling, suitable warm and weatherproof clothing, especially in winter, is recommended. Bring your own pump, spare tubes, drink, money and a mobile phone if you have one. In winter, mudguards will help to keep you and your kit clean and dry and are highly recommended - Cornish lanes can be very mucky! Fitting an additional mudflap to the rear guard will prevent splashing the rider behind and will be very much appreciated by whoever that happens to be. Everyone on a club ride must wear a helmet.
